Bay Area Jeremiah Fellowship -- Frequently Asked Questions
What is the typical age of a Fellow?
The typical age range of participants is 22-32. Applicants outside the range are welcome to apply. Fellowship staff can discuss your eligibility and whether the Jeremiah Fellowship is the right program for you
What are you looking for in a candidate?
We are looking for creative, dynamic and engaged young Jews to become Fellows, people who are highly motivated to be part of and contribute to a learning community. The Fellowship is committed to the diversity of each cohort, and we believe that a breadth of experience adds to the richness of the program. We encourage people of ALL backgrounds to apply.
How much does the program cost?
Thanks to the generosity of individuals and foundations, we are able to offer the program essentially free of charge. The $36 participation fee is a symbolic contribution toward the cost of the Fellowship, which includes nine months of trainings, guest speakers, and materials; accommodations, meals, and materials for two weekend retreats; and various special programs throughout the year.
Do I get paid to be a fellow?
No, however the entire tuition of the program is provided free of charge to the participants.
What is the commitment?
The Fellowship is a 9 month program that runs from September through May. Excellent attendance is required. Fellows come together for two weeknight evenings every month (on Tuesdays), participate in three experiences in the field (on Sundays), and two weekend-long retreats.
***For the 2011-2012 Fellowship year, the evening sessions will be held every other Tuesday evening from 7-10 PM and will alternate venues between San Francisco and the East Bay. The Weekend Retreats are scheduled for October 21-23 and April 27-29 and the Sunday experiences in the field for January 8, February 12, and March 11. To be considered for the Fellowship, Fellows must be able to commit to these dates. Look below for a tentative schedule of session meetings throughout the year***
The program culminates with The Jeremiah Challenge, a self-directed and community-based action project where the Fellows put their skills and values into action.
Fellows are also expected to apply the grassroots fundraising skills they learn in the Fellowship by raising money to help fund the program. Each Fellow will have a goal of raising $360 during the year, and will be provided training and support to do so.
